CMP-2-18-2007: CrapMonkey Podcast Episode 117

Well, the weekend is coming to an end.  In this episode we have an audio snippet from our night on Ballard Avenue and there is also a restroom review of the CHAC (reviewed during the Ignite Seattle event).  Need a little nude art to go with your beer?  Perhaps barearts.com has what you need.  There are a few things of interest going on in the not too distant future: Wintergrass Festival, Spitfire and SIFF Oscar Party, The Buttrock Suites, and a Kristen Hersh in-store top the list.

The song of the day is Amway by Fanny Alger and the website of the day is actually the CES coverage on Geek News Central’s Video Podcast Feed.  We close the show with On a Podcast by Cruisebox.

Beware of What Your Zune is Telling People

Zune owners know that there is a terrific community aspect enabled by the device’s wireless features. However, be cautious of how you configure your Zune in the Settings menu.  There is an option to set the level of detail your Zune broadcasts to other Zunes to either “basic” (which essentially just announces your presence) or “detailed.”  The level of detail in the latter mode really made me a bit uncomfortable, so I wanted to make sure that Zune owners were warned about the risk to privacy.  See below for an example of what I’m talking about:

Zune screen set to “basic”         Zune Screen set to “detailed”    CrapMonkey Zune

Don’t say you haven’t been been warned!

Travis on SkateWell, January is almost behind us already!  In this episode we chat about the upcoming Seattle Podcasting Network Meetup, which will be providing some podcasting coverage to Seattle Ignite 2.0 on February 13th.  Ready to move to Vista?  If so, you’ll want to check out the Vista site first to ensure your hardware is ready.  Also, if you happen to be a Tori Amos fan, don’t miss your chance to be a part of a Tori Amos tribute billboard and enter to win her latest box-set.  We also have a brief interview on wheels from the Skate King in Bellevue (additional video here).  Finally, find out how to share happy hour with your dog in this episode.

The song of the night is Alive by the Deadline and we close the show on Movie, by Katie Davis.  The Website of the day is Zunebeams.com.

CMP-1-21-2007: CrapMonkey Podcast Episode 115

It’s Sunday night and I’m sipping a Mactarnahan’s Blackwatch Porter.  Wendy and I checked out Bodies: The Exhibition in Seattle this weekend and I recommend it to anyone who is able to get there.  Last Thursday the Seattle Podcasting Network Meetup featured a discussion on portable media, podcasting and user generated content that is available for download. Need an idea for Valentine’s Day?  What about a night out at Hales Brewery? Also worth noting: the 8th Annual Washington Cask Beer Festival is coming up in March and tickets will go fast. Following are a couple of fun links:

The song of the day is Agony in June by Sunday Morning Music (buy the album on Amazon) and I close the show on a song by Phil Hurley.  The website of the day is vanishingpointgame.com (following the website of the day, I go on a brief tangent about WPF/E and the Microsoft Expressions Suite).

By the way, CrapMonkey now has a MySpace site… want to be friends?

Well, it’s Christmas time again. We spent a great weekend in Leavenworth, and the weekend before that we attended the Winter Brewfest at Hales.  I share a little audio from both events in this episode.  After a little beer news (including a reference to Santa’s Butt), we listen to a Restroom Review from Uber.

The Song of the day is On the Rocks by Speakeasy Junction and the website of the day s beertools.com.

POC 9 – CrapMonkey Podcast – Pieces of Crap #9

Travis BrewsIn this fairly lengthy Piece of Crap, my friends and I take to brewing some beer.  We went up to Cellar Home Brew and bought all the equipment needed to start brewing our own beer.  In addition to the gear, we picked up the necessary ingredients to whip up a porter (which we dubbed Schrodinger’s Porter – give us a break, we’d had a few beers by then).  After getting all the gear home, stocking up the fridge with Dechutes, and downloading a few how-to articles from the Internet; Matt, Mr. Mark and I step into the wonderdul world of home brew.  Images are available on my Flickr page.

CMP-09-24-2006: CrapMonkey Podcast Episode 107

It’s the end of a beautiful weekend in Ballard.  The sun was out and the Seahawks were winning… what more could you ask for?  In this episode, I recap what seemed like a very fast week.  Next weekend, I’ll be heading down to the Podcast and Portable Media Expo, so be on the look out for audio from that event.  Fremont Oktoberfest came and went and I never made it down there, however, Leavenworth Oktoberfest is quickly approaching.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: if you enjoy Washington beers, you need to sign up for WABL at Washingtonbeers.com.  Speaking of beer, I came across some pretty cool goblets made from Recycled beer bottles that are worth a peek.

The Song of the day is Flames in Synergy by Inner Surge and the website of the day is Jiwire.com.  We close on a song being performed by Mary, a friend we made while sharing a campfire and some smores in the Yakima River Canyon.

CMP-09-11-2006: CrapMonkey Podcast Episode 106

Well, I’m pent up at a Hilton in Bellevue, but I thought I’d get a podcast out.  In this episode, I share audio from our evening out on Saturday.  We went to Brouwers for a birthday, the Ballard Art Walk to view some photography, and then went to a block party in West Seattle.  As such, we chat with some interesting folks, including photographer Carrie Robinson.

The song of the day is 1974 by Kristen Ward (who just released her new CD, Roll Me On, on Friday evening at the Sunset in Ballard) and the website of the day is girlsandcorpses.com.

POC 8 – CrapMonkey Podcast – Pieces of Crap #8

In this nugget, I’ve got about 20 minutes of audio to share from our Labor Day camping trip to the Big Pines Recreational site in the Yakima River Canyon.  We spent five days there relaxing around a campfire, floating down the river, and even hitting the Kititas County Fair.  Photos are available on Flickr.

Office Poetry: Fires

Putting out fires – that’s what I do
From morning till night, all the day through,
Well not in the true sense of the phrase,
Never have I stepped into a blaze,
Perhaps “fighting fires” just sounds more noble,
Then shipping a package or faxing a logo,
Then tracking a bug or installing a patch,
Then configuring updates to run in a batch
Then running the conf call or training new hires
It’s much more impressive to be putting out fires
But all of these fires leave one open item,
Why does nobody ever claim to light em?

Office Poetry: Troubled Outlook

… And I Wait
No sands fall from this spinning time piece,
My blueprint of the future desperately scrambles to collect the past,
Both of us, paralyzed in anticipation.
The soft hum of progress spins into a noticeable roar,
Tension builds – an elastic band stretched to its limits,
Further, and further, and further, and…
SNAP!
In a thunder storm of chimes my yesterdays erupt before me.
Dismiss All – I click,
And begin to feed the storm of tomorrow

Office Poetry: Morning Mud

I have decided to begin a series of poems inspired by my days at the office.  I hope you enjoy them.  They will be under the category “Office Poetry” should you decide you’d like to read them all:

Morning Mud

Who were these infamous siblings?
Where are these Mythical Hills?
I must know more about this fantastic land where pure blandness can be disguised in such magnificently shiny little bags.

CMP-08-08-2006: CrapMonkey Podcast Episode 104

It’s a busy summer in the land of the crapmonkey.  This weekend the CrapMonkey held a Brewfest that proved to be a most excellent time.  Images from the brewfest are available on my CrapMonkey Flickr Account.

Brewfest 2006

There are some great events brewing in Seattle.  Hempfest is coming up on the weekend of the 19th, as is the Barely Audible Music Festival at the Redhook Brewery in Woodinville. We are also getting close to OktoberFest Season. The Fremont OktoberFest is the weekend of September 22nd and the Leavenworth Oktoberfest starts the last weekend of September (watch last years video).

The song of the day is On a Podcast (aka – That Podcast Song) by Cruisebox and the website of the day is RealBeer.com.  We close the show with “All the Good Things” by Jeff Fielder.

CMP-07-28-2006: CrapMonkey Podcast Episode 103

This episode is pretty random (and fairly crappy to boot).  After ranting a bit about my trip home on the bus and my tiny messy house, I share my space-saver BBQ idea (see below image).  Also, here is a link to the litter box idea from many episodes ago.  In short, it’s a system for selling litter in the litter box – so that you never have to scoop litter again.  Attach the lid to the new “bottom” and throw away the old one.

BBQ

I also chat a bit about the Sunset Bowl in Ballard and the Seattle Tattoo Expo.

The song of the day is Gut Bucket by James Brown and the website of the day is the retouch demo.  We close the show with Stories and Fables.

It’s a hot evening in Seattle… perfect night for a podcast.  Tonight I share a bit of audio from a dinner experiment I participated in last night, and I have a restroom review of Hattie’s Hat.  Summer is upon us in Seattle, so there is a lot of stuff going on.  This weekend is the Phinney Neighborhood Summer Beer Tasting, and the Georgetown Ol’ Skool Carnival.  Next weekend, you may want to head up to the Capitol Hill Block Party.  Coming up in August is the Fat Tire Tour De Fat and the Scottish Highland Games.  Better start marking up your calendar!

The song of the night is Minmae with Yr Beer is next to the Fire and the website of the day is teleflip.com.  We end the program with the New Autonomous Folk Singers performing Pitcher of Beer.

CrapMonkey.com has finally gotten a facelift.  I migrated over to Dreamhost as my hosting provider and I have relaunched the site on wordpress.  The key benefit is that the blog, podcast and website are all integrated into one (finally).

In this episode I introduce the 2006 Passionate Podcaster Contest being hosted by the Seattle Podcasting Network and share a restroom review of Mulleady’s Irish Pub.

The song of the day is Rollin’ and Tumblin’ by Jeff Fielder and the website of the day is Coastr.com.

CrapMonkey Pieces of Crap #7: Gnomedex After Party

In this nugget, we roam through Marc Canter’s Gnomedex after-party speaking to some of the folks in attendance.  Jacob Stewart, Bre Pettis, Kaliya (identity woman), Eric Rice, and Sean Bohan were kind enough to oblige. Bare in mind, it’s about 1:30am following a long day of conferencing and socializing.
